Merseyside Sergeant accused of assault in custody suite

A Merseyside Police Sergeant has been charged with assault following an Independent Office for Police Conduct Investigation.

Peter Jordan, 52, was the custody sergeant on the evening 16 December 2018 when a 23-year-old man was brought into the custody suite on St Anne Street after being arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

During his detainment the man suffered injuries to his face and later complained about the forces used on him.

This was referred to the IOPC in January 2019 and they launched an investigation which was completed in December 2019.

The IOPC submitted evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) who made the decision to charge Sgt. Jordan with a section 47 assault occasioning actual bodily harm in May this year,

He is due to appear before Warrington Magistrates Court on 7 July. He has been on restricted duties since December 2018.
