Man,21, charged with murder of PCSO Julia James

Kent Police have charged a 21-year-old man with the murder of PCSO Julia James.

Callum Wheeler, 21, from Aylesham, was charged on Monday evening with her murder.

Julia, 53, was found next to Akholt Wood, near to Aylesham Road, Snowdown, at around 4pm on Tuesday 27 April 2021. She had been out walking her dog near her home and died after suffering extensive head injuries.

The man was arrested on Friday by Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate and Kent Police were given 36 extra hours to question the suspect.

It follows an investigation that has included drafting in the National Crime Agency and searches carried out by the British Transport Police’s operational support team under mutual aid.

In a statement, Kent Police said: “On Monday 10 May 2021, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised a charge of murder. Mr Wheeler remains in custody and is due to appear via video link at Medway Magistrates Court on Tuesday 11 May 2021.”

The investigation continues.
