City of London add two commanders to senior management team

One will head up operations and the other economic and cyber crime

City of London Police has appointed two new commanders following the announcement of the new Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners earlier this year.

Umer Khan will take over as Commander for Policing Operations and Security, supporting Assistant Commissioner Paul Betts.

Commander Khan joins the force after nearly 27 years with Greater Manchester Police, where he started out his career aged 21.

On the path to his current role as a chief superintendent, Commander Khan has worked in a wide range of areas, from the Commercial Fraud Unit to introducing the National Reassurance Programme to Oldham, following the 2001 riots. Commander Khan also served as Territorial Commander for the City of Manchester and led on consequence management for the Manchester Arena Terror attack in 2017.

Nik Adams will support Assistant Commissioner Pete O’Doherty to provide national coordination of Economic and Cyber Crime and oversight of the National Lead Force Operations Business Group.

Commander Adams joins after spending four years as the National Coordinator for Prevent and the Lead for Safeguarding within Counter Terrorism Policing based in the Counter Terrorism Policing Headquarters, New Scotland Yard, where he is currently a chief superintendent.

Bringing 20 years of experience to the role, Commander Adams has also worked as Regional Co-ordinator for Prevent, Protect and Prepare within Counter Terrorism Policing North East. Before moving into Counter Terrorism Policing, Commander Adams was part of West Yorkshire Police as Leeds City Centre Commander and Neighbourhood Policing Lead for South Leeds.

Commanders Adams and Khan will join City of London Police in March.
