Officer who started as DC in insurance fraud unit now heads it up

City of London Police has just appointed a new head for their Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Hill has just taken up the position having previously been the deputy head of the department.

DCI Hill had been an officer for more than 15 years and was one of the first detectives to work in the IFED when it was launched in 2012.

Since the team was established, they have carried out 2,972 arrests and voluntary interviews as well as secured 594 court convictions amounting to 312 years of prison time.

DCI Hill had previously held roles in the CID and in Counter Terrorism Policing. He was working as the National Coordinator to build a network of regional fraud development officers before he returned to the IFED in 2020 as deputy head of the unit.

His predecessor T/Detective Superintendent Edelle Michaels has moved over to Head of Lead Force Co-ordination.

DCI Hill said: “I am thrilled to be heading up such a committed and forward-thinking team. From joining as a Detective Constable at the very start to now steering the team into its next decade, I have been able to watch the unit grow into the dedicated, specialist team it is today.

“IFED has achieved so much over the past ten years, but there is still a lot to be done in the fight against insurance fraud. Using both my experience in IFED and other areas of policing, I hope to work with the team to find new methods of disrupting and preventing this type of fraud.

“I look forward to continuing our collaborative work with the insurance industry, so that we can work side-by-side to combat insurance fraud.”
