West Yorkshire Chief confirmed for another three years
CC John Robins, who boasts over 32 years of service with West Yorkshire Police, was originally contracted until 2024.
West Yorkshire Chief Constable John Robins will remain in post until 2027, the Mayor of West Yorkshire has announced today.
CC Robins, QPM, was appointed a Constable in West Yorkshire in 1990. As well as working in uniform policing – he has specialised in community policing, crime reduction, intelligence development and operational planning.
He additionally worked for many years as a nationally trained Hostage Negotiator.
In 2006, he was promoted to Chief Superintendent where he oversaw Criminal Justice and in 2008 he became the District Commander of Kirklees.
In 2014, the now Chief became the force's Temporary Deputy Chief Constable, leading on Professional Standards, Ethics and Equality. He was appointed as Deputy Chief Constable three years later, before taking up his current post of Chief Constable in July 2019.
Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, said: “In spite of unrelenting government spending cuts, West Yorkshire Police’s Chief Constable John Robins has continued to navigate the Force through the many challenges it faced with sheer professionalism.
“He has embraced our priorities, including keeping women and girls safe, while championing diversity."
Describing himself as "honoured" by the extension, CC Robins added: “I remain resolute in my determination to keep improving policing across West Yorkshire.
“I am also committed to supporting the professional and dedicated police officers, staff and volunteers who make up West Yorkshire Police.”
