Interview: DCC Tyron Joyce on the Race Action Plan

Cambridge1947 (14/06/22 @ 12:51)

I trust that A/DCC Joyce (please note the fact that he is 'Acting') will not continue to arrogantly refer to officers who disagree with him on diversity issues as 'Male, Pale and Stale Terrorists who need to be managed out of the police service'. His comments caused tremendous resentment in the NPAS and will do little to enhance good relations in policing as a whole. Indeed someone needs to ask who in the NPCC thought that it was a good idea in the first place to appoint him to oversee the Race Action Plan.

Cambridge I am a retired BME officer, his comments were disgraceful. The NPAS saga also showcased very undesirable traits ie bullying. The current race action plan is divisive. The academic Simon Holdaway identified division within the BPA in his academic writings along the lines of race/religion. The NPCC policy is divisive and does nothing to address the concerns of other BAME groups, the focus is on the black community. The rational is the SLI yet look at the internal data, it is Asian and Muslim Cops predominantly who are initiating race discrimination claims particularly in Joyce’s own force. However, Acting DCC will need some examples for his promotion board. I have spoken to many BME cops who believe the initiative is divisive and not fit for purpose, as usual others know better than those who have lived experiences of policing.

Dee Collins probably supported him…

The tangible outcome of this report will be a wholesale retraction from Stop and Search and proactive policing in the areas where crime is at its highest and most deadly, poor, disadvantaged and disproportionately home to sizeable BAME communities. This will benefit no-one least of all victimes of crime living in such areas. We haveseen it before and the same will happen again, until murder rates reach epidemic levels and the wheel turns once more!

@Annoymous. Neville Lawrence has made the same point senior cops not listening. Abimbola Johnson, what makes her an expert. I can think of several individuals including former BME cops who have experienced racism who are legal professionals practicing this area of law, maybe they understand the structures and processes to well.

Why this endless compulsion for some to keep playing the 'whatever' card game suits their personal agenda. If you're good enough you'll achieve irrespective of any other factors (of race, gender or orientation) that lurk in the mind, except the one that says perhaps you're not good enough or there's someone more qualifed.

Intelligence lead and focussed stop and search produced the same results, focus groups and the Home Office didn’t like the fact that whether it’s intelligence, focused, integrity based or whatever, the results are the same.
