Judicial review shouldn't be used as misconduct hearing 're-run'

If you checked the answers of most promotion interviews you will find they are made up. Most of the questions are so far removed from real police work that the only way you could ever pass would be able to create an answer to fit. It happens up and down the land and in every job in the country. Perhaps the real issue is why? Why does the promotion process drive people to this?

Ye God's how many people gild the lily on interviews. Gross misconduct, oh really! the LQC handed down the verdict and the top floor decided to throw their teddies out of the pram. Just goes to show that the LQC are a more balanced bunch then the "we will not tolerate" brigade.

I retired in 2002 and know back then that officers going for promotion were making up stories to meet the criteria set at interviews. Thats how we have ended up with the leadership now in place within probably all forces. I believe many senior officers dont have the experience in crime prevention, detection and file preperation required to make knowledge based decisions and give guidance on real policing issues.

Some Chief Constable's are like babies throwing the rattle out of their prams if they don't get the result they want at Misconduct Hearings merely demonstrating perhaps their immaturity and fitness for the rank - maybe they should consult a dictionary for the definition of the word 'independent' (assuming they're not too busy preparing yet another thesis on diversity or inclusivity).

Mike Hunt (14/12/22 @ 17:04)

I have observed on other posts that Police are lowering the bar on what constitutes gross misconduct and then wringing their hands in contrition when they release the numbers of misconduct cases to the public who criticise them on the misunderstanding that the officers are corrupt. Lying in a promotion type board is wrong but is a condemnation of the process more than anything else. Pore over any chief officer application and you will read hyperbole and exaggeration. I wonder what would happen if you read an officer's on line dating profile which stated they liked romantic walks and reading stories to orphans whereas the truth was they spent every evening playing dominoes in the boozer and you reported this to PSD?

Softly Softly (15/12/22 @ 07:59)

6 Penalty points for repetition LOL.

Annoymous. (15/12/22 @ 09:40)

Hyberbole, I would go further and say deliberate ommisons including bullying and employment tribunal claims for racism. Apply to be a judge and your asked if you have been accused of discrimination as part of the application, no such question is asked on a police promotion application.

Mike Hunt (15/12/22 @ 10:22)

@Annoymous. I would suggest there is an element of blatant self-promotion, glory hunting and overcooking the pudding on every application, paper sift, and interview board. But are you suggesting everyone of chief officer rank is a bullying racist, including those of bame origin?
