Just another small example of creeping privatisation. It seems harmless but there will be bigger and better incidences of this type of thing as the year go by and it will all be to the detriment of Regular Officers.

This is the sort of work we should be handing out (although I acknowledge OLDCOPPER's creeping privatisation worry). I just wish they would picture personnel who look as if they might be able to chase people off a crime scene if called to do so !!

What a good idea. Paying less and freeing up bobbies for the beat. We need more of this type of thinking so that we can still deliver quality service with police officers doing the tasks that need trained police officers.

And their power in law to enforce the cordon of a crime scene is what? A yellow jacket..........

What powers would they use should smeone attempt to breach a police cordon? Nice idea, but poorly thought through .... and the 2 in the picture look ambitious!

NOT JOINED UP THINKING- have you ever met a career crinminal intent on messing up a crime scene. What or who's to stop someone walking right through an important crime scene? What powers does this private company have to stop someone legitimately entering their own house/ business/ public right of way?

Sorry but this accounting twaddle They still have to pay the officer who would have been on the scene so it can also cost extra

Will they be given the power to detain until an officer arrives? Will they be allowed to lay hands on to detain? How highly vetted are they? They could ruin the scene for a mate. Good idea in principle but just wait for the first Barrister to stand up and say the crime scene was compromised by a nosy guard. Anyway new Winsor recruits will cost less than a guard soon anyway.

I have a great idea... most Forces have tried the cardboard cut out cops placed strategically in shop premises, garage premises and according to research!!! they reduced crime and reassured people. Well... why not re deploy the cardboard cops at cordons.. they have the same powers as the Securitas ones.

My experience of using private security for scene guards is less than satisfactory. I dont have an issue with freeing up police to not stand on cordons but the quality of private security staff being used and thier availabilty to attend scenes at short notice is not good.

It's another cop out, pardon the pun. This kind of lack of ,or passing the buck mentality by the hierarchy in all public service is to the detriment of a professional and valued police force. Police have bills to pay and putting in private security is a farce. Support the police.
